DLS Band Teacher Job Description:

La Salle Academy is a Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory school, sponsored by the Brothers of the Christian Schools (the De La Salle Christian Brothers) offering a comprehensive curriculum. Founded in 1871 and located in the heart of Providence, La Salle Academy serves a student body of 206 students in grades 6 through 8. La Salle Academy has as its mission the education of young men and women of diverse backgrounds, with a special concern for the working class and the poor, in the tradition of St. John Baptist De La Salle’s ideals of faith, service, and community.

The instrumental music teacher will instruct beginning and intermediate band students in the De La Salle Middle School. The teacher will lead sectional rehearsals on a seven day, rotating schedule, during the last two periods of the school day, as well as one weekly combined rehearsal before school for the entire school year. The teacher will also program and perform in a Christmas and spring concert each year.

The successful applicant will have at least a bachelor’s degree in music.  Candidates having academic preparation in education and/or experience in teaching are preferred. Experience in teaching middle school aged students is desired.  References should speak to the candidate’s ability to be a dynamic music educator; their eagerness and enthusiasm in working effectively with capable young people at this level; and to their ability to work collaboratively with adult colleagues.
