Job Description:

La Salle Academy is a Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory school, sponsored by the Brothers of the Christian Schools (the De La Salle Christian Brothers) offering a comprehensive curriculum. Founded in 1871 and located in the heart of Providence, La Salle Academy serves a student body of 1560 students in grades 6 through 12. La Salle Academy has as its mission the education of young men and women of diverse backgrounds, with a special concern for the working class and the poor, in the tradition of St. John Baptist De La Salle’s ideals of faith, service, and community.

La Salle Academy is seeking a dynamic and well-rounded Campus Minister to join our Campus Ministry team, consisting of 3 Campus Ministers and a School Chaplain.  As a Campus Ministry team member, this position would be responsible for leading some of the following services, while collaborating on all of them.     

We are looking for passionate educators who can engage students in a variety of programmatic and mission-oriented efforts. Educators from any ministry background with a passion for working with students at the secondary level are encouraged to apply. 

 

Start Date:

This position is a full-time appointment. Assume responsibilities on or about July 2026.

 

Responsibilities:

The Campus Ministry team provides the below services. This position will be expected to lead or collaborate in the planning and facilitation of these programs. Campus Ministers are also expected to participate in key student formation experiences including: attending and facilitating two Kairos retreats each year, participating in the Peer Ministry Summer Retreat during the first week of August, and serving as a leader on at least one Brother James Miller Service Immersion Trip annually.

 

 

  • Class Retreats.

 

      • Organizes and develops a retreat experience for freshman and sophomore classes
      • Facilitates junior class retreat at high ropes course and manages logistics regarding permission forms, payment, and busing
      • Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding changes in the retreat program for the following year.

 

  • Kairos.

 

      • Organizes Kairos retreat experience for Juniors and Seniors - booking of retreat center, ordering materials, and other logistics
      • Facilitates leadership formation meetings prior to retreat
      • Recruits faculty chaperones and prepares them to lead small groups on retreat

 

  • Brother James Miller Service Immersion Program.

 

      • Coordinates 3-4 services trips hosted during the academic year and summer - includes: communicating with service sites, facilitating booking of trips, managing money and payment plans, collecting permission forms and medical information, coordinating flights and rental cars, etc.
      • Recruits faculty chaperones to attend service trips and prepares to lead pre-trip meetings and facilitate immersion experience
      • Recruits students to participate on service immersion trips
      • Communicates with students and parents regarding trip information
      • Evaluates and updates student formation process as needed

 

  • Lasallian Youth.

 

      • Coordinates monthly service opportunities for Lasallian Youth by partnering with local social service agencies and volunteer programs
      • Develops and facilitates weekly reflection activities for students based upon important themes related to service-learning, the Lasallian Charism, and core principles of De La Salle (inclusive community, concern for social justice and the poor, faith in the presence of God, education as transformation, and 
      • Mentor students in developing and facilitating reflection activities for meetings
    • Christian Service Program.
      • Coordinates placement of senior class into Christian Service placements
      • Facilitates Christian Service reflection guides - evaluates and updates as needed
      • Works in partnership with Religious Education Department to place students and facilitate reflection on service

 

  • Peer Ministry Program.

 

      • Manages and supports group of 60 juniors and senior members of the program
      • Facilitates small group formation sessions to teach student necessary skills in faith leadership, such as: small group facilitation, prayer, empathy, retreat talk writing, 
      • Develop and facilitate Summer Peer Ministry retreat during the first week of August

 

  • Counseling & Student Support.

 

      • Provide individual support and group counseling programs as needed in association with the School and College Counseling department and School Social Work department.
      • Attend student service meetings for each grade level and act as a contributing member of the student service team alongside school and college counselors, school social workers, class dean, vice principal for student life, and other necessary parties.

 

  • Liturgy/Mass, Morning Prayer, and Spiritual Life of the Community.

 

      • Works in concert with the school Chaplain to organize and facilitate school-wide Mass and other liturgical opportunities as needed for the school community
      • Directs students and faculty in writing and delivering a morning prayer each school morning that is rooted in the writer’s personal life and reflects an important component of the Lasallian charism
      • Provides programs and experiences that will stimulate and develop the faith  lives of faculty and staff

 

  • Classroom teacher (1 class per semester).

 

      • Teach 1 theology/religious studies class per semester
      • Collaborates with members of the Religious Studies/Theology Department to provide programs and experiences that complement the concepts taught in the religious studies/theology curriculum (and vice versa)

 

  • Other Responsibilities.

 

    • Maintains an atmosphere in the Campus Ministry Center that aligns with the mission, vision and goals of the office.
    • Initiates, where possible, prayer and liturgy groups, discussion groups, communication networks, support groups, conflict-resolution groups, issue-oriented groups, and political action groups that could be available for students who, through the school's educational program, have become committed to action on behalf of justice. The involvement of faculty is necessary to implement such groups.
    • Maintains relationship between La Salle Academy and the Diocese of Providence

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Theology, or related field is required. 
  • Ministry experience at the secondary level is preferred. 
  • Eagerness and enthusiasm to work collaboratively as part of a team and with high school students is required.  
  • References should speak to the candidate’s ability to be a dynamic secondary educational Campus Minister
