La Salle Academy is a Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory school, sponsored by the Brothers of the Christian Schools (the De La Salle Christian Brothers) offering a comprehensive curriculum. Founded in 1871 and located in the heart of Providence, La Salle Academy serves a student body of 1560 students in grades 6 through 12. De La Salle Middle School is seeking a passionate and dynamic 7th and 8th Grade Science (STEM) Teacher to inspire and engage middle school students in scientific inquiry, problem-solving, and hands-on learning experiences. The ideal candidate will foster a love for STEM subjects and create a student-centered, inquiry-based classroom environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with state and national science standards. (a curriculum has already been designed).
- Teach a curriculum covering physical science, life science, earth science, engineering and STEM-related topics.
- Incorporate technology, project-based learning, and real-world applications into instruction.
- Design and facilitate hands-on labs, experiments, and engineering challenges.
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
- Assess and monitor student progress through a variety of assessment tools.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive classroom environment that promotes inquiry and critical thinking.
- Integrate cross-curricular connections, particularly in math and technology.
- Utilize innovative teaching strategies, including flipped classroom, blended learning, and inquiry-based learning.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to students, encouraging curiosity and problem-solving skills.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and development.
- Participate in professional development, department meetings, and school-wide initiatives.
- Supervise students in extracurricular STEM clubs, science fairs, and competitions.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Science, STEM Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Certification: Valid state teaching certification in middle school science or STEM-related subjects.
- Experience: Prior teaching experience in middle school science or STEM education preferred.
- Strong knowledge of scientific inquiry, engineering design process, and hands-on STEM instruction.
- Proficiency in integrating educational technology and digital tools in the classroom.
- Ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages student participation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Commitment to fostering a growth mindset and encouraging innovation in students.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with STEM curriculum development and project-based learning.
- Background in robotics, coding, or engineering concepts for middle school learners.
- Familiarity with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and their implementation.
- Passion for integrating 21st-century skills into science education.
